About the Library

My name is Mary Liberge. I am the full-time librarian at the Ferryway K-8 school. I look forward to working with the students, staff and parents. The library hours are 7:45 am to 3:40 pm, Monday-Thursday. Fridays the library will be open from 7:45 am to 3:15 pm. The students are welcome to come during these hours to pick out or drop off books, use the computers for schoolwork or to do homework.

Goals and Expectations

My goal at the Ferryway library is to help students find what they need for books and information and to create a comfortable atmosphere for the students while they are at the library. For the younger students, I will be reading a story to them during their scheduled library class time. For the older students, there are computers available for them to do research work or homework.

Lessons

For the month of April: Grade K- we will be reading different versions of "Little Red Riding Hood" story and comparing them. We will be doing activities to go along with the story. Grade 1- we will be reading the Caldecott Award winning story "Make Way for Ducklings". We will also read a non-fiction book on ducks. The last story that we will read during this month will be a story called "The Ugly Duckling" by Hans Christian Anderson. Grade 2 - this month we will be visiting and learning about the continent of Australia. We will hear a story from Australia, do a craft project and research animals from Australia, and then presenting this information in front of our classmates. Grade 3 - We will be reading and becoming familiar with the different genres. Grade 4 - We have just completed stories involving the environment and will be creating poems to share for Earth Day.

Featured Books

Books on the environment to tie in with Earth Day will be on display in the library.
