About Myself

I have been a speech/language pathologist in the Malden Public Schools since 1978. I have a B.S. and M.Ed from Northeastern University.

My Role at the Beebe School

My job as a speech-language pathologist is to work with students in grades 5 through 8 who have communication disabilities. This includes much more than fixing lisps. Students with language disabilities may have difficulty understanding what they hear, expressing themselves, speaking fluently, pronouncing words, understanding and using vocabulary, and following directions. Most of the students I work with have an Individualized Educational Plan. I work with these students in the classroom and/or in small group settings, depending on their specific needs. I also consult with the classroom teachers and other health care professionals to help address each student's language needs.

Qualifications of a Speech/Language Therapist

The titles speech/language therapist, speech/language pathologist, speech/language clinician are interchangeable terms. A qualified speech/language pathologist in Massachusetts must have:
  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Speech/Language Pathology
  • The Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech- Language-Hearing Association(ASHA)
  • Massachusetts State License
  • Certification from the Massachusetts Department of Education
